Pack of Mentors (Spring 2019)


  • Purpose:
    1. Extract the most influential factors that lead to excellent performance in the field of software engineering
    2. Generate an ideal use case for the Gestalt video player

    • Joe Rogan Experience podcast

  • Questions:
    • In what area do you most uniquely have expertise?
    • In the effort to stay current in a field that changes often, how do you decide what voices to listen to and what weight you ought to give their respective claims?
    • What practices do you employ somewhat regularly that have been major factors to what success you've achieved?
    • What do you believe that has been met with the most resistance from others? OR What do you believe that not many others do regarding your field of expertise?
    • If you could achieve expertise in 1-3 emerging technologies (languages, practices, platforms, problem-domains) with the snap of a finger, what would they be?
    • What heuristics have most benefited you in your career?
    • What is some common BAD advice that you hear people give to new software engineers / computer scientists?
    • What differentiates GREAT software engineers from really good software engineers?
    • Book recommendations?
    • What questions do you think software engineers should be asking of themselves and/or their worlds?
